Sourdough Surprises - July

We love it that you guys are just as excited about finding new uses for your starter as we are! We also love it when you guys send us emails with great ideas for challenges! Our friend Robyn in New Zealand sent us an email all about a fun new idea that we instantly thought would make an excellent challenge!

Gozleme (if you are like us and didn't know)  is a traditional Turkish pastry dish made of hand rolled dough and filled with various things before being sealed up and cooked on a griddle. Kind of like a flatbread calzone. They are traditionally filled with a variety of meats, vegetables, mushrooms, cheese, eggs, and spices.

We found absolutely no recipes online for a sourdough gozleme, so we are going to totally create this niche! You can probably use any flatbread or bread dough recipe you want, but don't make it too involved and time consuming (i.e.: don't make a brioche type bread here!). You basically want to make a thick type dough, roll it out, put your ingredients of choice inside, fold it up and cook it on a griddle. We are definitely going into uncharted territory here, so make it up and have fun!   Since there are no sourdough gozleme recipes we can find, we will fill our pinterest board this month with other gozleme recipes so you can get an idea of the kinds of fillings you can use.
