Sourdough Surprises - October

Awesome job on the cornbread, everyone! We loved seeing how varied and creative you guys are!

This month we want to do croissants! Croissants are a buttery, flaky, pastry known for its crescent shape made of a yeast dough layered (or laminated) with butter! They tend to get a bad rap for making them at home, because of the lengthy process involving rolling, and rolling, and rolling the butter into the dough. But you can definitely achieve a delicious result with just a bit of patience and elbow work, the dough itself is actually very easy to work with! Making them with sourdough starter adds just a bit of sourdough tang, and they are very delicious! We hope you like them!

We highly encourage you guys to check out TXFarmer on The Fresh Loaf for some super inspirational sourdough croissants (with recipes, instructions and tips). Please also check out our Monthly Inspiration Board on Pinterest we have a whole slew of awesome recipes for you there!
And lastly, don't feel you need to stick with a "regular" croissant, either. Not only can you play with your flours here, but you can add flavoring to the dough, and fillings as well!

To join us this month:

1. Choose a recipe and bake some delicious croissants, utilizing your sourdough starter!
2. Take some photos and blog about it on October 20, 2014
