Sourdough Flat Breads

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Ok, this month we are going to do something really fun! Flatbreads!! We decided not to limit you to any one particular bread - tortillasnaanpitainjera, whichever one strikes your fancy! For this challenge we are going to define a flatbread as a soft, pliable bread that is cooked on a griddle or stovetop.  We want to leave crackers and crispy breads for another challenge! :)

Typically, flatbreads are unleavened. Sourdough is a leavning agent. So this might seem like a bit of an odd choice for this month, but in fact this is a great use of your discard starter. The majority of the recipes that we have collected for you are quick recipes that do not require any fermentation time, which will give the breads that impart sourdough flavor without actually rising the dough. A few of the recipes do, but rarely more than a few hours before the dough is then rolled out. Please check out our Sourdough Flatbread Board on Pinterest to see all the recipes that we have collected for you to try, but you are of course allowed to use any recipe, seasoning, flavors, etc that interests you.

This month we are going to do things a little bit differently. We decided the time was right and we actually spent money on a sweet new linky tool. This one works a bit differently, but it will be prettier and show off all your gorgeous photos! We asked, and you told us how you wanted to do this. So, here goes!

Here is how to participate this month!
1. Bake any flatbread you choose, so long as it includes your sourdough starter.
2. Post your flatbread on February 20, 2013
3. Stop back by our blog and link up! Make sure you have a link back to us in your post somewhere or the linky will not accept it.
4. We would still love to have you include the linky tool on your own blog! You crazy people actually voted that you would rather email us for the code! So-- send us an email and we will send you the code! And while you are at it, send us a picture of your flat bread, too, and we will include it on our slideshow!

Don't have a blog but still want to join us? Awesome! We would love that! Just make your flatbread and send us an email at sourdoughsurprises@gmail.com. Include a photo, what you made, and your name and we will include you on our post!So link up! Share your delicious sourdough flat breads here in our fun new linky tool and share the sourdough love!
